Nadine Ashwell Overstreet, 83 of Bedford, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Saturday, February 23, 1929 in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Jesse Victor Ashwell and Beulah May Shepherd, although she was raised by her step-mother, Rose W. Ashwell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon Travis Oversteret and a son, Mahlon Keith Overstreet. She was the wife of a Marine, the mother of a Marine and the grandmother of a Marine. Nadine was a retired employee of Sam Moore Furniture, was a charter member of the Women of the Moose #1005, a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. Surviving is her son, Travis Wayne Overstreet of Bedford, two grandsons, Travis Wayne Overstreet, II & wife, Jennifer of Bedford, Erik C. Sammis & wife, Michelle of Marion, AK, three great-grandchildren, Gavin J. Overstreet, Gabrielle R. Overstreet, Tyler A. Sammis. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 1 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Vernon DeLong officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 4 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and other times at the home of the grandson, Travis, 3017 Sleepy Ridge Drive, Bedford.
