John Vincent Wheeler, 80 of Bedford, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. He was born on Tuesday, February 5, 1929 in Narrows, a son of the late Everett Wheeler and Alta Hott Wheeler. He was a member of Bedford Christian Church. He leaves to mourn and miss him, his loving & devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Jean Bailey Wheeler of Bedford; his three children, Connie W. Kelton & husband, Bill of Danville; Kay W. Walters & Richard Cubala of Greer, SC; son, John E. Wheeler & wife, Terri of Bedford; two grandchildren, Rebecca Walters & Howard Walters IV of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Kendall W. Wheeler & wife, Mae of Pearisburg. The family would like to give special thanks to all of his church family at Bedford Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and to the staff of Carilion Hospice of Bedford. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Bedford Christian Church Building Fund, 1928 Moneta Road, Bedford, VA 24523 or Carilion Hospice of Bedford, P. O. Box 688, Bedford, VA 24253. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Bedford Christian Church with Rev. William H. Moore officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
