Obituary of Maurice Goode

Maurice Benjamin Goode, 79, of Huddleston passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Campbell's Rest Home. He was born on Monday December 14, 1932 a son of the late Ira Clay and Hinda Austin Goode. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Goode Hobbs and brother, Austin Clay Goode. He owned and operated Double Good Dairy Farm, a Century farm in Bedford County established by his family in 1889. He began working the farm at age 9 after his brothers Austin, Joe, and Davis joined the military, serving in WWII. He was the loving husband of Gertie-Mae Spradlin Goode, and father of Mark B. Goode and wife, Susan, Nancy Goode Spencer and husband, Mike, and Todd C. Goode and wife, Kim. Also surviving are his grandchildren Joshua Goode and fiancé, Robyne, Zachary Goode, Caleb Goode and wife, Julia, Rachel Spencer, Isaac Goode, Clay Goode, Sarah Spencer, Kristin Calilung, Hannah Goode, and Casey Calilung. Also surviving are his brothers, Joe Goode, William Davis Goode and wife, Polly, and sister-in-law Dorothy Goode, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests no flowers and is asking those who wish to make memorials to consider the Bethesda United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 14340 Wyatt's Way, Huddleston, VA 24104. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012at Bethesda Methodist Church at 11:00 with the Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church Arrangements are being handled by Udpike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
