Donald O. Poindexter, 57 of Bedford, departed this world on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his residence. He was born on Friday, November 25, 1955 in Bedford County, a son of the late Jim Hardy Poindexter and Mattie Gills Poindexter. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis, Dennis, Jimmy, Elton Poindexter and two sisters, Reva P. Hughes & Nannie Akyea Richie. He moved to Roanoke and later married Sylvia Casey Poindexter. He joined Halesford United Methodist Church at an early age and was employed with Norfolk Southern for thirty-five years as a Conductor. Surviving are five brothers, Troy Gill of Roanoke, Carlton (Gladys) Poindexter, Daniel Poindexter, Willie Poindexter all of Bedford, Zebedee Poindexter of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Clessie (Leroy) Turner of Bedford, Elaine Cooley of Newark, DE, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Ray Arrington officiating. Interment will follow in Halesford United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
