Elsie Lam Jones, 79 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Saturday, December 2, 1933 in Floyd County, a daughter of the late James Thomas Lam and Hava Hylton Lam. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Jones; a great grandson, Tristan Jones; a brother, Douglas Lam; and three sisters, Ruth Gayhardt, Evelyn Stanley, Vera Hodakoski. Elsie was a devoted wife and mother who spent her time on earth as a loving caregiver not only to her family, but to others through her work at Bedford Memorial Hospital and Campbell Rest Home. She had also worked at the Bedford County Sheriff's Department and was a member of Walnut Grove Union Church. Surviving is her daughter, Robin J. Dickson & husband, Dean "Tony" of Big Island; a son, Ronald G. Jones & wife, Nina of Bedford; two sisters, Gladys Leftwich & husband, Gerald of Montvale, Verda L. Falls of Colonial Heights; a sister-in-law, Barbara Lam of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Martin G. Jones, Crystal D. Easterling, Jody J. Bobbitt, Joshua L. Jones, Dylan A. Dickson; six great-grandchildren, Logan Easterling, Hunter Jones, Tyler Jones, Macayla Lindy, Caedan Jones, Kinley Dickson. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider The American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11537, Alexandria, VA 22312 or the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Robert Auxier and Rev. George Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Union Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until 6 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford
