Carolyn Key Overstreet, 68 of Thaxton, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Wednesday, August 23, 1944, a daughter of the late Grady Sumner and Mirta Overstreet Sumner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ishmael Junior Overstreet. She was a member of Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving is her son, Wayne Overstreet & wife, Patricia of Thaxton; five daughters, Cindy Dowdy & husband, Bobby of Roanoke, Sharon Dooley & husband, Oliver of Thaxton, Carrie Overstreet & husband, Randy of Thaxton, Melissa "Missy" Bland & husband, Larry of Thaxton, Glenda Hensley & daughter, Alexis of Thaxton; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; a step-sister, Lisa Sumner of Atlanta, GA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Earl Ragland officiating. Interment will follow in the Peaks Presbyterian Church & Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 until 4 & 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
