Sarah Chockley Brown, 88 of Goodview, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on Wednesday, August 6, 1924 in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Charles Chockley and Martha Wright Chockley. She was also preceded in death by husband, Dewey Edward Brown, Sr. and a daughter, Nancy Marie Brown. She was a retired employee of Bedford County Public School having worked in the cafeterias of both Stewartsville Elementary and Staunton River High Schools. She faithfully attended Jordantown Weselyn Church as long as her health allowed. Surviving are her sons, Dewey Edward Brown, Jr., & wife, Theresa, Larry Douglas Brown & wife, Clara all of Vinton; a sister, Rachel Moore of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Crystal M. Hayes, Dewey E. Brown III, Angela D. DeWeese, Ryan D. Brown; four great-grandchildren, Devin B. Hayes, Jackson E. Hayes Tayja A. DeWeese, Breanna M. DeWeese. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 1:30 pm at the graveside at Virginia Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Monday preceding the service from 12 noon until 1 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
