Algie Blankenship Mayhew, 74, of Bedford passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013. She was born on August 18, 1938 in Bedford County. She was the daughter of the late Amos and Florence D. Blankenship. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William W. Mayhew. Algie was a graduate of Moneta High School class of 1957. She was a member of Morgan's Baptist Church and the Lady Sunshine Sunday school class. She was employed as an optical assistant for various opticians. She was a volunteer for Victims Advocate Program. Surviving are her three children William W. Mayhew Jr. and wife Lewanne, Beth M. Bradley, and Bryon L. Mayhew; four brothers, Dennis (Madeline) Blankenship Bobbie (Lois) Blankenship, Lynwood (Alma) Blankenship, and Michael (Sharon) Blankenship and three sisters: Marjorie (Silas) Dalton, Shelby (Barry) Robertson, and Sandra (Leslie) Falls; also seven grandchildren: Chris (Kelly) Mayhew, Crystal (Shannon) Walker, Shanna (Andy) Clark, Nicholas (Courtney) Mayhew, Vanessa Bradley, Kevin (KC) Bradley, and Brittany Mayhew, and three great grandchildren: Haylee Mayhew, Lane Mayhew, and Nova Clark; special friends, Farrell Sowers, Joyce Mayhew, Erica Jarrells, Mark Ray, Amber Fields and George Thomas. A celebration of Algie's life will be held at Morgan's Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 11:00a.m.with Rev Rick Mallory officiating Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 - 8 p.m. at Morgan's Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
