James Oscar Johnson, 66 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born on Friday, November 15, 1946 in Campbell County, a son of Inez Owen Johnson Tolley of Bedford and the late Oscar Johnson. He was also preceded death by a brother, Tony Johnson and his step father, John Tolley and sister-in-law, Priscilla Johnson. He was retired from Southern Air after devoting forty one years of service. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors and spoiling his favorite four legged companion, Sam. In addition to his mother, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of thirty years, Judy White Johnson; two sons, Donald Johnson of Lynchburg, Michael Meador & wife, Marlene of Bedford; two daughters, Denise Dickerson & husband, Chris of Brookneal, Sherry Roberts & husband, Richard of Bedford, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, a brother, David Johnson of Lynchburg, mother-in-law, Leila White of Thaxton; also his very special buddies from Southern Air.. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider your favorite charity . Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2 PM at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Turner & Rev. Jack Davis officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford
