Virginia Pete Parker Farley, 85, of Bedford went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 5, 2013. Born June 3, 1927, in Bedford, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Cora Parker. Virginia was retired from Belding Corticelli where she dutifully worked for 47 years. She was a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #2844. She adored being outdoors, working in the yard and taking in the splendor of the Peaks of Otter. She was an avid gardener and just a glimpse of her yard revealed her enormous "green thumb." She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family. She was also and avid reader - of the newspaper, magazines and especially natural health journals. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Virginia made friends easily and maintained contact with many. She had a beautiful and distinctive handwriting and delighted in corresponding with friends and family. She was a generous and loving person and found pleasure in doing for others. Virginia was also a devout Christian and followed Dr. Jonathan Falwell and the music ministries of Charles Billingsley, without exception. Virginia is survived by her husband, Carlton Rucker Farley; three children, Sylvia Caldwell and her husband, Terry, Tony Farley and Lisi McFadden and her husband, Johnny; two grandchildren, Cherri Terry and Tracy Wilson and her husband, Doug; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Terry, Zachary Wilson and Marlee Wilson. Additional survivors are her beloved sister, Dale North; a special niece, Shirley Cheek and her husband Bobby; a lifelong friend, Flo Bernard; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Neurological Intensive Care and Coronary Care Units at Lynchburg General Hospital for the wonderful care given during her brief illness. A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Bedford Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Falwell & Dr. David Henderson officiating. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Bedford. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
