Obituary of Thomas McLaughlin

Thomas Harrison McLaughlin, 88 of Moneta, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on Tuesday, September 30, 1924 in Prince Edward County, a son of the late Thomas H. McLaughlin Sr. and Erma Craghead McLaughlin. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Mark McLaughlin and a son-in-law, Rufus Orange. He was a retired carman at N & W Railroad and was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran having served during World War II. Surviving is his wife, Frances Williams McLaughlin of Moneta, five daughters; Gloria J. McLaughlin of Roanoke, Erma M. Orange, Beth M. Foutz both of Bedford, Cathy M. Chatman & husband, Charles of Moneta, Jan M. Stinnette & husband, Perry of Huddleston; a son, Jerry L. McLaughlin & wife, Sharon of Moneta; a sister, Jean M. Jordon & husband, Lloyd of Moneta, two half-sisters, Sarah B. Fowler of Thaxton, and Joann B. Hill & husband, Alton of Amelia; his aunt, Alma Craghead Obenchain, Moneta as well as thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Moneta Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 497, Moneta, VA 24121. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Greg Rogers and Rev. Bryan Sheehan officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
