John Quarles Whorley, Jr., 80 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, September 28, 1932 in Bedford County, the son of the late John Q. Whorley, Sr. and Juanita Dudley Whorley. He was a U. S. Army veteran, a retired truck driver with Workman Oil Company and was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Nicopolis United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife of fifty-nine years, Margaret B. Whorley; two daughters, Sharon W. Overstreet & husband, Dennis of Bedford; Carol W. Key & husband, Grant of Lynchburg; a son, John M. Whorley of Bedford; three grandchildren, Mandy O. Johnson & husband, Brad, Ann Elizabeth Key, Mary Margaret Key; two sisters, Ruby May Whorley, Jo Anne Bobbitt, both of Bedford. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Bedford Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 161, Bedford, VA 24253, the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11537, Alexandria, VA 22312, or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Jerry Viemeister officiating. Interment will follow in Nicopolis United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 12 noon at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
