Ishmael Junior Overstreet, 71 of Thaxton, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, August 30, 1938 in Bedford Co., a son of the late Ishmael Worth Overstreet and Nettie Virginia Orange Overstreet. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd Overstreet, Wayne Overstreet & Russell Overstreet & a sister, Elizabeth Carter. He was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving is his wife, Carolyn Key Overstreet; a son, Wayne Overstreet & wife, Patt of Thaxton; five daughters, Cindy Dowdy & husband, Bobby of Roanoke; Sharon Dooley & husband, Oliver, Carrie Overstreet & husband, Randy, all of Thaxton; Melissa (Missy) Bland & husband, Larry of Roanoke; Glenda Hensley & her daughter, Alexis of Bedford; a sister, Faye Overstreet & husband, Pat of Bedford; a brother, Dale Overstreet & wife, Ellen of Bedford as well as ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Earl Ragland and Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Interment will follow at Peaks Presbyterian Church & Community Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
