Geraldine (Gerry) Mitchell Cassidy, 78 of Moneta, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Bedford Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on Sunday, June 17, 1934 in Caribou, Maine and moved to Virginia in 1956. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard W. Mitchell. She was a retiree of Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Radford Baptist Church. Those left behind to cherish the memories that Gerry made with them are her husband, Charles Roland Cassidy; two daughters, Lynda M. Childress & husband, Ben, Dottie M. Johnson & husband, Bill of Bedford; a son, Claude Mitchell of Warsaw; three grandchildren, Willie Johnson & wife, Nicole, Beth Rickman & husband, Matt, Andrew Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Luke Johnson & Emma Rickman; a very special sister-in-law, Mary Ethel Mitchell; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Flavis Cassidy & wife, Violet, Peggy, Margaret, Sarah, Mary, Sam Cassidy; two brothers, Gary Callahan, Robert Curtis; a sister, Juanita Mason; a special friend, Shirley Camden and many other friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Radford Baptist Church with Rev. Karl Hofheinz officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 PM at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
