Mary Evelyn Hudson Thaxton, 95 of Moneta, VA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 9, 2013. She was born on Sunday, December 16, 1917 in Roanoke, a daughter of the late William Thomas Hudson and Lillie Perdue Hudson. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Will "Jack" Thaxton, a brother, Oren E. Hudson and a sister, Mildred H. Smith. She leaves behind her family that loved her dearly: nieces & nephews, Nancy East & husband, Gary of Vinton, Matt East & wife, Erica of Blue Ridge, Stephen East & wife, Jaclyn of Vinton, Jaydn & Makenna East of Blue Ridge, David Thaxton of Richmond and Donald Thaxton of Vinton as well as her sister-in-law, Myriam Thaxton of FL. She loved her church family at Grace Memorial Baptist Church so the family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 1737 Robertson Road, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Greg Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
