Margaret Heptinstall Martin, 90 of Bedford, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born February 19, 1919 in Amherst County, a daughter of the late Albert L. Heptinstall and Julian Cash Heptinstall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Benjamin Martin. She was a graduate of Lynchburg College with an ME M. Ed and was a retired employee of Bedford County Public School with 30 years service. She was a member of Mentow Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also part owner of Glenwood Tire Service along with her husband, Wilbur. She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Curry W. & Kelly D. Martin, Huddleston; three daughters & sons-in-law, Gail M. & Geoffrey Hopkins, Huddleston, Julia M. & Rick Manley, Bedford and Carol M. & Steve Patton, Lee's Summit, MO; two brothers & a sister-in-law, Marvin Heptinstall, Pasadena, MD; Calvin Heptinstall & wife, Iris, Lynchburg; two sisters-in-law, June Heptinstall, Lynchburg; Edna Heptinstall, Huddleston and a brother-in-law, Emerson Martin & wife, Lou Ellen, Huddleston; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The family request that those wishing to make memorials consider Mentow Baptist Church or Huddleston Community Church.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 2 PM at Mentow Baptist Church by Rev. John Boyles, Rev. Rock Chocklett and Rev. Wayne Murphy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Huddleston.
