Mary Ellen Miller Fariss, 75 of Bedford, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on Wednesday, September 22, 1937 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Robert Alephard "Buster" Miller and Mary Hazel Ferguson Miller. She was a retired employee of Sam Moose Furniture having worked as a Supervisor and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Surviving is her husband, Raymond Smith Fariss; three sisters, Norma Jean Bobbitt of Roanoke, Alice Miller Ferguson-Scott & husband, J. D. of Bedford, Bonnie Miller Overstreet & husband, Larry of Thaxton; two brothers, R. L. Miller of Moneta, Jerry Lynn Miller & wife, Terry of Amherst; her caretakers, Valerie Detamore, Donna VanDyke & Rita Blankenship. The family would like to thank the Bedford Fire Department & Lifesaving Crew for all of their assistance. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Bedford Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 161, Bedford, VA 24523 or the Bedford Fire Department, 315 Bedford Avenue, Bedford, VA 24523 Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Nicopolis United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 PM Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
