Rosalind Perry Newman, 87 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Sunday, October 25, 1925 in England, a daughter of the late Herbert William Perry and Beatrice May Turner Perry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Allen Marvin Newman and her son, Perry Allen Newman. She was a retired dispatcher with the Bedford City Police and was member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Surviving are her grandsons, Allen M. Newman, Paul W. Newman & his wife, Angela, all of Richmond; three great grandchildren, Hannah Newman, Ashton Newman Crosby Newman; her daughter-in-law, Teresa I. Newman of Goode; a sister, Gladys of England as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Main Street United Methodist Church, 212 E. Main Street, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Bart Weakley officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
