Janie Mae Howell, 96 of Bedford, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Friendship Manor Health Care Center. She was born on Saturday, December 16, 1916 in Campbell County. She was also preceded in death by husband, Robert Everette Howell and two brothers, Henry Franklin and Owen Franklin. She was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corporation having worked in Fabrication & Adhesive and was a member of Quaker Baptist Church. Surviving are her sons, Robert Thomas Howell & wife, Melanie of Cleveland, GA, Michael R. Howell & wife, Barbara of Vinton; a daughter, Rebecca Mae Howell & husband, Joe of Floyd; grandchildren, Robert Howell, Diana Alvis, Adam Howell, Rachel Howell Cassandra Latimer, Jennifer Howell, Sarah Howell & Jason Howell and great-grandchildren, Austin Latimer & Jackson Howell. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. David Timma officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
