Ossie M. Updike, 90 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Sunday, August 26, 1923 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late John William Updike and Myrtle Williamson Updike. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Mack Hamilton Updike, Jr. She was a member of Quaker Baptist Church & Wilkinsburg Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, PA and a fifty-five year member of Liberty Masonic Lodge # 109, Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are her brother, Bobby Updike & wife, Mildred; brother-in-law, James W. Updike, Sr. & wife, Shirley; sisters-in-law, Edley R. Updike & Georgianna U. Tuck; a niece, Janice U. Jones & husband, James, as well as many other loving & caring nieces & nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Moneta Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 497, Moneta, VA 24121 or Carilion Bedford Hospice, P. O. Box 688, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy & Rev. David Timma officiating. Interment will follow in Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 noon until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
