Everett Roscoe "Jim" Wood, Sr., 94 of Bedford, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at Autumn Care of Altavista. He was born on Wednesday, January 22, 1919 in Bedford County, VA, a son of the late Thadius Wood and Florilla Womack Wood. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mae Skinnell Wood, three brothers and four sisters. He was a retired welder with Montigue Betts was was a member of Mentow Baptist Church. Surviving are his daughters, Dianne W. Lawhorn & husband, Silas of Bedford, Linda W. Carter of Hurt, Janice W. Moody & husband, Wayne of Montvale; a son, Everett R. "Rocky" Wood, Jr. & wife, Linda of Evington, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Care for their excellent care given to our Dad over the last eight years, especially Dawn Casserly and Patsy Carson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. John Dooley officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
