Obituary of Sallie Morgan

Sallie Ayers Morgan, 85 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Richfield Retirement Recovery and Care Center in Salem, VA. She was born on Friday, November 25, 1927 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Harry M. Ayers and Kate Nichols Ayers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. "Tommy" Morgan, three brothers, Edwin P. Ayers, Carlton R. Ayers and Elmer C. Ayers and one sister, Lois A. Meador. Sallie was a very loyal member of Morgans Baptist Church and worked outside the home many years at Burlington Mills in Altavista, VA and at Moneta Farm Service in Moneta, VA. Sallie also enjoyed working on the family farm and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She is survived by two daughters & a son-in-law, Annette M. & Edward P. "Eddie" Howard of Salem, Brenda M. Tuck and grandson, Brandon Morgan Tuck both of Bedford. Special thanks to Sallie's nurses, caregivers and staff members at Richfield Recovery and Care Center, 3 East & Emeritus Ridgewood Gardens, her care team at Good Samaritan Hospice and Dr. Daniel Temeles with Blue Ridge Cancer Care during her long battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at Morgans Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Carver officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
