Edith Altizer Cole, 73 of Bedford, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on Saturday, December 2, 1939 in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late Ellis Altizer and Edna Sowers Altizer. She was a retired employee of Sam Moore Furniture. Surviving is her husband, James Edgar Cole; her daughter, Pamela C. Hammack & husband, Roger of Bedford; three sisters, Linda F. McCoy of Dublin, Judy Davis of FL, Lettie Brewer of Bedford; a grandson, Stephen Hammack. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Alzheimers Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
