Please share a memory of Calvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Calvin Glyne Jones, 81 of Bedford, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Monday, October 3, 1932 in Franklin Co., a son of the late Lorenza Jones and Bessie Brown Jones. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gaynell Jones Saunders and Shirley Dean Jones Dewease and a brother Loving Odell Jones. Surviving is his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Betty Franklin Jones; step-children, James "Jimmy" Gilbert Wilson & wife, Sandra, Elizabeth Ann Gurney, Daniel "Danny" Bennett Wilson & wife, Bonnie; two brothers, Herbert Morris Jones & wife, Betty, William Lowell Jones & wife, Peggy; two sisters, Margaret Jones Moran & husband, Bob, Sandra Jones White; as well as many step-grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Calvin was a farmer most of his life and stayed at home and helped his parents until he got married. In later years he went to work at Moneta Dress Factory until it closed and then he worked at Moneta Farm Service until he retired. He loved farming, cattle and gardens. He was a special person who never said a bad word about anyone; was a kind, goodhearted and loving person and had lots of friends because he never met a stranger. He loved his step-children and step-grandchildren and he helped raise Travis Witt. He always said he seemed like his son because they were together so much when he was a little boy. He thanks everyone for their prayers, visits and phone calls. The family wishes to thank Hospice for their great help and service. Special thanks to all of my friends at Patmos United Methodist Church, especially Pat Boley moving in and helping us. She was God's blessing. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Patmos United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 106, Huddleston, VA 24104. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 2 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Riley Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Patmos United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 6 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
