Obituary of Edward Kinnally

Edward F. Kinnally of Orlando, Florida, died on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the age of 95. Ed was born on April 2, 1918 to James H. and Mary L. (Ebelt) Kinnally in Yonkers, NY where he was raised and graduated from Commerce High School. He had three sisters, Vera Kinnally, Marie Kinnally and Claire Smith, and seven brothers, Thomas, John, James, William, David, Raymond and is only survived by Robert S. Kinnally. Ed served in the navy from 4-22-43 to 2-11-46. After receiving training at the U.S. Naval Training Station in Sampson, NY., he was stationed there for two years in charge of the unit post office. He also served on LST 689, stationed at Eniwetok, in the Marshall Islands. He served as an Apprentice Seaman, Specialist (M) Third Class, and Mailman Second Class, earning the Victory, South Pacific and American Theatre medals. Ed spent his entire career at the Mt. Vernon, NY Post Office, working from July 1, 1938 to June 30, 1972. He held the following positions: substitute clerk, career clerk, foreman of mails, foreman of carriers, station examiner, assistant superintendent of mails, superintendent of mails and assistant postmaster. Ed was a devout Catholic and devoted family man. He married the former Marjorie Eleanor Claffey, deceased in 1992, and is survived by their five children: Carol Ann Schappert (husband Joe Schappert is deceased) , Edward L. Kinnally, Donald S. Kinnally and wife Nancy, Kevin P. Kinnally and wife Becky, Jean Malcolm and husband Jack. He is survived by six grandchildren: Mike Schappert and wife Katey, Liz Iglesias and husband Rob, Katie Sherwood and husband Dave, Christina Kinnally, Joe Wellborn and wife Cory, and Lauren Wellborn. He is survived by five great-grandchildren: Mike Schappert, Carson Schappert, Emma Sherwood, Sam Wellborn and Blair Wellborn. We already miss you Pop! God's speed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 2 PM at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A reception at the church will follow the burial. The family will receive friend Friday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
