Obituary of Nora Mae Ratcliffe

After a courageous struggle with cancer, Nora Mae Ratcliffe, 75 of Montvale, died peacefully Saturday, December 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on Tuesday, March 15, 1938 in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late Derward Roscoe Giles and Eva Mae Richards Giles. She was also preceded in death by husband, Rayburn Ray Ratcliffe. She was a member of Montvale Baptist Church. Many people say there is nothing like a mother's love and they are right. Nora Mae was a wonderful person who showed love to everyone she came in contact with. She was caring and beautiful inside and out. She loved life, her family and her friends. She encouraged you when you had no strength, she listened when no one else would and she believed in you when you needed it most. Now the purest and most beautiful angel is at home. Mom, please keep us under your wings. Surviving are her daughters, Teresa Meadows & husband, Bruce of Bedford, Sherrie Witt of Montvale, Kathy Parker & husband, Terry of Bedford; three grandchildren, Brandy Giles, Mindy Witt, Terry Ray Parker, Great Granddaughter, Makynze Taylor and a very special great granddaughter, Makaylah, the love of her life; sisters, Frances Alford of High Point, NC, Elizabeth Stevens & husband, Clarence of Montvale, Peggy Jones & husband, Gene of Thaxton, Becky Giles of Vinton; a brother, Tommy Giles & wife, Janice of Roanoke and many other family & friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Montvale Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Monday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
