Florence O. Franklin, 96 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 in Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 22, 1917 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Willie Andrew Overstreet and Lula Watson Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Nelson R Franklin who passed several years ago as well as her brothers, Thelbert & Odell Overstreet and a sister, Pauline Overstreet. She was a long time member of Thaxton Baptist Church, where she taught for over 50 years. Surviving are her son, John R Franklin and daughter in law Marcia L. Franklin; grandchildren Jeremy Anthony, Eric Randolph, Sharon Ann, Ryan Nelson, and Emily Beth. She is also survived by a niece, Ann Chisom; nephews, Dan Overstreet and wife Susan, and their children, Stewart and Will, and Jerry Overstreet and wife, Peggy and their son, David. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 10 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Interment will follow in Thaxton Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
