Obituary of JoAnn Newcomb

JoAnn Desper Newcomb, 80 of Goode, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on Tuesday, December 12, 1933 in Augusta Co., a daughter of the late E. A. "Jerry" Desper, Sr. and Madie Trainum Desper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carson David Newcomb, Sr., a brother, E. A. Desper, Jr., two sisters, Maxine D. Monroe, Rosalee D. Leitch and a great-granddaughter, Haylee Newcomb She was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church. JoAnn was a devoted wife for sixty years as well as a loving mother, grandmother & great grandmother. She enjoyed watching basebell & basketball. Surviving are her children, Becky N. Owens & husband, Johnny, C. D. Newcomb, Jr. & wife, Donna, Cindy N. Hubbard & husband, Herby, Faith N. Dooley & husband, Mark; grandchildren, Jason, Brooke, Brandon, Ashley, Ashleigh, Amanda, Leslie, Kate, Steven, Brent; great-grandchildren, Eliana, MaKayla, Eden, Mayson, Reid, Caeden, Eliza, Myles; her brother-in-law, Chester Monroe and sister-in-law, Doris Newcomb, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the devoted staff of the Bedford County Nursing Home, Carilion Bedford Hospice and Dr. Brian Buchanan for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 am at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
