Donna Proffitt Akers, 53 of Thaxton, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at her residence. She was born on Friday, December 30, 1960 in Lynchburg, a daughter of Ellsby Wayne Proffitt and Betty Lou North Proffitt of Lynchburg, both of whom survive. She was Secretary at Blue Ridge Exterminating and was of the Church of God faith. In addition to her father & mother, she is survived by her husband, Billy Gerald Akers; two sons, Jason Scott Akers & wife, Alisha of Bedford, Lucas Aaron Akers of Thaxton; three daughters, Jamie Leigh Akers of Montvale, Lisa Marie Gardner & husband, Jared, Lorrie Elizabeth Phillips & husband, Robert all of Roanoke; a brother, Ellsby Wayne Proffitt, Jr. & wife, Cheryl of Lynchburg; three sisters, Ellen Wiley, Melissa Wilson & husband, John all of Lynchburg, Jennifer Morris & husband, Jon of Richmond; her grandchildren, Rory Forbes & Emma Akers, Hannah & Sophia Gardner & Coulson Burnett. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Jeff Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Land - Mount of Olives Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
