Obituary of Dorothy Dellis

Dorothy Cundiff Dellis, 87 of Moneta and formerly of Huddleston passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on Saturday, July 31, 1926 in Franklin Co., a daughter of the late Grover Harrison Cundiff and Minnie Maxey Cundiff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas (Nick) Dellis and all of her brothers, Olaf, Herman, Malcolm, Jason (Jack), Junior, Berkley, and Franklin Cundiff. Also a special friend, Marvin Lipscomb. Most of her life she was an active member of Palestine Baptist Church but for the last 10 years has been a member of Saunders Grove Church of the Brethren. She was involved with the Huddleston Life Saving Auxiliary and retired from Halmode Apparel. Prior to working at Halmode, she and her husband, Nick ran N. S. Dellis Grocery in Huddleston. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Stevens & husband, Glenn; sons, Gary Dellis & wife, Patsy, Donald Dellis & wife, Monica; grandchildren, Christian Dellis & wife, Vanessa, Jeffrey & Katherine Dellis, Michelle Johnson & husband, Jacob, Deanna Dellis; step-grandchildren, Jason Stevens & wife, Christine, Melanie Stevens; great-grandchildren, Jake & Marshall Johnson, Silas Dellis & Madison Hundley; step-great grandchildren, Anna Griffin & husband, Steven, Olivia & Patrick Stevens & Patrick Schreir; step-great great grandaughter, Ava Griffin; sisters-in-law, Jewell Cundiff, Zelma Cundiff & Barbara Cundiff as well as numerous nieces & nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Melvin Harris, Rev. Dr. Glenn Stevens, Rev. Maynard Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Palestine Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
