Roger Wayne Martin, 59 of Roanoke, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on Saturday, October 16, 1954 in Bedford County, a son of Odessa Payne Martin of Bedford, who survives and the late Samuel Rucker Martin. In addition to his mother, the is survived by his brother, Jimmie Rucker Martin & wife, Carolyn of Lynchburg as well as numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Trinity Baptist Church, 947 Lyle Street, Bedford, VA 24523. A special thanks to Padmaja V. Mallidi, MD and the staff of the Oncology Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Vernon Delong officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 1 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
