Obituary of Nancy Jane Schickling

Nancy Jane Harmony Schickling, age 77, was born into a loving Christian family and passed away on January 27, 2014. As a teenager she was an accomplished pianist, giving concerts in he hometown of Waynesboro, PA. She was waitress and hostess at Howard Johnsons restaurant in St Petersburg, FL, where she met her husband Harry (of 51 years). She worked as a clerk for Kerrisons in Charleston, SC and was an award winning Avon representative in Charleston. In Bedford she was a real estate agent with Century 21. Nan loved the Lord. She was a long time Bible student, scholar and teacher. With her gentle, yet matter of fact spirit, she effectively cemented countless believers to their foundation in the Word of God and walk with the Lord. Nan was a loving sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved gathering us together for fellowship and her good food, which if it wasn't fried in butter or covered in gravy she said it wasn't worth making. Nan is survived by her husband ,Harry; daughter, Mauna and husband, Jeff Hair; son, David and wife, Cheryl Schickling; grandchildren, Jennifer Hair, Susanna Schickling and great granddaughter Savannah Schickling. There are many other close family members, almost family members and close friends who she deeply loved and cared for. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11537, Alexandria, VA 22312. A memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 1 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Dr. Bob Moore officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 11 am and until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
