Obituary of Edward Ryan

Edward A. Ryan, 87, Bedford, VA formerly of Mason, WV, died on Sunday July 25, 2010, at Bedford Memorial Hospital, Bedford, VA. He was born June 19, 1923, in Mason, WV, son of the late TJ and Emma Roseberry Ryan. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ruth E. (Roush) Ryan and a brother, Thomas Ryan. He graduated from Wahama High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was hired by Appalachian Electric Power in 1950 working at the Philip Sporn plant, New Haven, WV achieving the position of maintenance supervisor by his retirement in 1983. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-laws, Patrick J. and Rhonda Ryan of Eagle Rock, VA, Michael and Linda Kay Ryan of Syracuse, OH and James E. and Diane Ryan of Buchanan, VA, one daughter and son-in-law Rita C. and Philip Zimmermann, Bedford, VA; one sister and brother in law, Eileen and William "Bill" Strunk, Vero Beach, FL. nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Bedford, VA on Friday July 30, 2010 at 10:00 am, with Rev. Fr. Salvador Añonuevo and Rev. Fr. Stephen McNally officiating. Burial will follow on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Mason, WV. The family will receive friends at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford on Thursday July 29, 2010 from 6 until 8 with rosary beginning at 7:30 pm. They will also receive friends Saturday from 10 until 10:45 AM at Fogelsong Funeral Home in Mason, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 264, Mason, WV 25260.
