Obituary of Marcus Woodford

Marcus Kentwood Woodford, Sr., 88 of Atlanta, GA & formerly of Bedford County, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014. He was born on Thursday, April 16, 1925 in Bedford County, a son of the late William Garrett Woodford and Eva Laughlin Woodford. He was a lieutenant in the Army Air Force serving as a B-25 pilot during World War II. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech. He began his career in Bedford, where he met the love of his life and wife of fifty-nine years, Mildred Garnett, originally of Boydton, VA. He led Kabota Tractor in Atlanta as Senior Director and Division Manager for over thirty years helping to establish the company's preeminence in the American and global market. He will be remembered for his love of cigars, tremendous sense of humor, many stories and words of wisdom but, mostly for a life marked by the respect and admiration of his family and all who knew him. Surviving is his wife, Mildred G. Woodford; three sons, Marcus K. Woodford, Jr. of St. Charles, MO, Charles Woodford of Charlotte, NC, Richard Woodford of Altanta, GA; two sisters, Sybil Newton of Roanoke, Betty Jo Bates of Culpeper, as well as ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Greg Soult officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 noon until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
