Lucy Witt Mitchell, 98 of Bedford, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Elks National Home. She was born March 23, 1911 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Luther H. Witt and Eva Goode Witt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith Mitchell. She was a member of Ephesus United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Anne M. Bond and husband, Hugh of Bedford; Dorinda M. Hopkins and husband, William of Bedford; two sons, F. Edgar Mitchell & his special friend, Katherine Taylor of Bedford and Ronald R. Mitchell and wife Shirley of Hardy; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Elks National Home Special Care unit for their kindness and special care of their mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ephesus United Methodist Church or the Elks National Home Special Care Unit. A funeral service will be conducted from the graveside at Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 2 PM by Rev. Wayne Murphy. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 PM Sunday at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
