Bettie Krantz Hooper, 90 of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on Thursday, May 17, 1923 in Bedford County, at her family home at Krantz Corner. She was a daughter of the late John Clifton Krantz and Bessie Ruth Anson Krantz . She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Lewis Hooper, three sisters, Mary Skyes, Mildred McNellis, Ruth Fisher & a brother, John Clifton Krantz, Jr. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church of Bedford. Surviving are her sons, Ronald Lewis Hooper of Lynchburg, Randy Hooper & wife, Janet of Evington, Larry Hooper & wife, Pat of Forest; her daughter, Carole Hooper Brooks & husband, Chuck of Amherst; a daughter-in-law, Pam Ligon Hooper of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, Krista Ragland & husband, Robert of Goochland, Stephanie Hooper of Forest, Seth Andrew Hooper & wife, Kate of Richmond, Chad Burnette Hooper of Lagana Niguel, CA, Lindsay Ligon Kidd & husband, Brent of Lynchburg, Charles Eric Brooks, Joseph Aaron Brooks both of Amherst; three great-grandchildren, Katie Ann Ragland, Parker Hooper Ragland, Addison Grace Kidd; two sisters, Margaret Parks, Jean Johnson both of Bedford and many nieces & nephews whom she loved very much. The family would like to thank Dr. Jeremy Hardison and the nurses of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Lynchburg General Hospital for their devoted care and compassion shown to our mother and ourselves. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the National D-Day Memorial, P. O. Box 77, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Lowell Sykes officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
