James Vernard Tweedy, 87 of Huddleston, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at the home of his daughter, Barbara Williams. He was born on Tuesday, November 9, 1926 in Roanoke, a son of the late Wesley Tipton Tweedy and Minnie Jacobs Tweedy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Janette West Tweedy. He was a retired employee of Piedmont Manufacturing, was a member of Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy and a U. S. Army Veteran having served during World War II. Surviving are his sons, John Tweedy & wife, DeLois, Paul Tweedy all of Moneta, James D. Tweedy & wife, Ginger of Altavista, David Tweedy & wife, Lynn of Lynch Station; daughters, Rebecca Stevens of Hurt, Barbara Williams & husband, Hershel of Huddleston, Lillie Arlene Moss & husband, Rob of Tappahannock, twenty-three grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren as well as two sisters, Betty West of Cody, Louise Toller of Lynch Station. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Ken Lester & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 until 6:00 pm at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
