Robert Willis Dooley, 88 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at VA Medical Center. He was born on Thursday, January 21, 1926 in Bedford County, a son of the late Irvin J. Dooley and Clara Bill Gibson Dooley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Irvin Dooley and two sisters, Effie Holdren & Martha Orange. He was a retired employee of Rubatex having worked in maintenance, was a member of Christian Life Ministries since 1972 and was a U. S. Army Veteran having served during World War II where he received the Purple Heart & Silver Star for gallantry in action. Surviving is his wife, Gladys Nester Dooley; five brothers, Marvin Lee "Stink" Dooley of Bedford, Dan "Bug" Dooley & wife, Joanne of Baltimore, MD, Manuel Dooley of Vinton, Edward "Goody" Dooley & wife, Susie, David "Boy" Dooley & wife, Donna, all of Thaxton; two sisters, Elizabeth "Cotton" Bonds, Valinda Broughman & husband, Guy of Buchanan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gladys Dooley, 738 Blue Ridge Avenue, Bedford, VA 24523 for living expenses. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 2 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Earl Ragland officiating. Interment, with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
