Please share a memory of Beverly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beverly Wayne Bryan, age 79, went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 27, 2014. Bev or B.W. , as he was often called, leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 54 years, Virginia “Jenny” Tweedy Bryan and three children; Sandra Bryan Burks of Roanoke, Virginia; Robert Wayne Bryan of Lawrenceville, Georgia and John William Bryan of Cumming, Georgia. He also has five grandchildren who will miss him: Bryan Wellington Burks and his father Frank William “Bill” Burks, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia; Robert Burhman Bryan and John Elden Bryan and their mother Pamela Morris Bryan of Dacula, Georgia and Collette Virginia Bryan and Heather Victoria Bryan and their mother Stephanie Collette Brotheridge of Ball Ground, Georgia. He is survived by his siblings, Stanley Bryan (wife Carole) of Corpus Christi, Texas; Donald “Jake” Bryan (wife Nancy) of Arcadia, Virginia; Daniel A. Bryan (wife Merita) of Roanoke, Virginia; and sister Carol Bryan Steiner (husband Ronald) of Long Beach, California as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bev is predeceased by his parents Robert Burhman and Pauline White Bryan as well as brother Robert Bryan (wife Rosalind). Bev was born on August 18, 1934 and spent his early years on Jennings Creek in Arcadia, Virginia. His parents, Pauline and Burhman moved off the mountain and settled in Bedford County. Bev graduated from Moneta High School where he played baseball and was a star in school plays. He joined the Air Force and met Bill Pollard, who introduced him to his soon to be bride- Jenny Lou. Bev was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1958. Bev retired from Trailways where he earned the 1 million mile safety award for an accident-free million miles driving. While at Trailways he began work part-time. He became a “Colonel” and began a career as an auctioneer and real estate broker that lasted for the next 40 years. He retired from both auctioneering and real estate from Scott and Bond, Bedford, Virginia at age 75. Bev served his community as a member and past chairman of the Bedford County Board for Zoning Appeals and was a faithful member of Flint Hill Baptist Church serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and as a joyous participant in the choir. A long life was lived, and except for the last few months, a healthy life. Bev was happiest out on the land, on his tractor, with his faithful dog Ben Franklin (because he was born in Franklin County) surrounded by his cows and garden. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, church and community. If you would like to make a donation in remembrance of Bev please consider Flint Hill Baptist Church , 8997 Dickerson Mill Road, Moneta, Virginia 24121. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 11 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, VA. Interment will follow Greenwood Cemetery, Bedford, Virginia. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, June 30 from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral & Cremation Service, Bedford. The family wishes to thank their generous neighbors, friends and church family for their acts of kindness over the past several months.
