Enos Comer Hawkins, of Forest, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the age of 91 at his residence. He was born on May 18, 1919 on a farm in Bedford County, a son of the late Comer Lee Hawkins and Laura Johnson Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Madeline Milner Hawkins, brothers, Clifford Hawkins, Dexter Hawkins, Clarence Hawkins, Edward Hawkins, and sisters, Mary Hawkins Martin, Myrtle Hawkins Mitchell, Rosetta Hawkins Smith, Roberta Hawkins. He was a lifetime farmer in Bedford County and loved helping his neighbors and teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren about farming.
Surviving is his son, Jack H. Hawkins; daughter-in-law, Ruby D. Hawkins; grandchildren, Deborah Hawkins Akers, Gary A. Hawkins; Patrick W. Hawkins & wife, Shannon; great grandchildren, Kristy A. Hawkins; Triston P. Akers; Kendal A. Akers, McKenzie K. Hawkins; great great grandchildren, Karmyn C. Hawkins-Souther, Maddison A. Abbitt and Daisha R. Poe. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Alzheimers Association, 1022 Commerce Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504. Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Forest, VA (at the end of Perrowville Road) with Rev. Charles Stinson officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Jack H. Hawkins, 2649 White Road, Forest, VA. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
