Obituary of Vicki Lynn Johnson Smith

Vicki Lynn Johnson Smith, 64 of Bedford, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on Tuesday, January 31, 1950 in Lynchburg, VA, a daughter of Jeanne Krantz Johnson of Bedford who survives and the late Jack Bennett Johnson. A graduate of Liberty High School, Vicki attended Ferrum College and later graduated from Radford College. She was a teacher of English & Journalism at Jefferson Forest High School for a time and later was an instructor at McCoy's Kiddie College in Bedford. She was a member of Bedford Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of forty-three years, John W. "Smitty" Smith, Jr.; three sons, Gregory Smith & wife, Gail of Johnson City, TN, Benjamin Smith, Scott Smith & wife, Zana all of Bedford; a brother, Benny Johnson & wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Ryan Smith & Delaney Smith as well as a number of relatives & friends. Although Vicki suffered a stroke in recent years, she managed an active family life and continued her interests in art, books and the computer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 12:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Dr. David Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
