Guy Glenwood Gibbs, 74, of Bedford, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Monday, October 2, 1939 in Bedford County, a son of the late Guy Garfield Gibbs and Annie Myrtle Bowyer Gibbs. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Massie Brothers Excavating and was a member of Bedford Church Of God . He is survived by his wife, Joan Hicks Gibbs; a daughter, Jennifer Renee Gibbs & her children Grayce and Nikolas of Lynchburg; a daughter from a previous marriage, Debbie Lynn Hollingsworth and her children Brian and Angela of TX; a sister, Maxine G. Mattox and husband Henry of Huddleston; a brother Hildrey Gibbs and wife Marie of Bedford; special friends, Vince and Jeans Brads, and Ricky and Debbie Smith; also three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 12:00 pm at the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. David Hinsen officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. of Olives Cemetery at Holy Land USA. The family will receive friends Tuesday beginning at 10 am and until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
