Obituary of Garland Johnson JR

Garland Edward (Ed) Johnson, Jr., 71 of Bedford, VA passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at his residence. Ed was born on Wednesday, March 1, 1939 in Bedford Co., VA, a son of the late Garland Edward Johnson Sr. and Marie Bower Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a step-grandson, Andy Mutter. Ed served his country in the Army National Guard Reserves from 1858 - 1964. Surviving is his wife, Evelyn Bowling Johnson; two sons, Garland Edward "Eddie" Johnson III & wife, Pam; William Lee "Billy" Johnson & wife, Penny; two grandsons, Landon & Tyler Johnson; two granddaughters, Rachel & Charlotte Johnson; sisters, Anne Maxwell & husband, Tom; Jean Cashion & husband, Willie; four nephews, Michael & Joe Maxwell, Andy & Lee Yowell; and two nieces, Anne McGee & Mary Frothingham. Also surviving Ed is one step-daughter, Marjorie Mutter; two step-sons, Ronnie Mutter & wife, Pam; Brooks Mutter; four step-granddaughters, Sabrina, Mandy, Ronda and Jetana; twelve step-great grandchildren and one step-great great granddaughter. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Bedford Medical, Bedford Hospice Service and all the friends who have been such a comfort to the family during Ed's illness. Box 304, Big Island, VA 24526. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Mr. Frank T. West officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
