Helen Newman, 97 of Lynch Station, went to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was born on Tuesday, November 7, 1916 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late John B. Newman, Sr. & Ducky Thurman Wilkes Newman. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Bailey Newman, Jr. and Colon Osborne Newman. She was a member of Leesville United Methodist Church. Surviving is her niece, Betty Tuck & husband, Barry of Huddleston; sister-in-law, Helen H. Newman of Lynch Station; great niece, Mandy T. Carter & husband, Jamie of Huddleston; great nephew, Michael Tuck of Huddleston; great great niece & nephew, Cheyenne & Jonathan Carter. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Leftwich Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
