Alvin Sexton, 69 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was born on Monday, January 1, 1945 in Grayson, KY, a son of the late Homer Sexton and Hazel McDavid Sexton. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Webb. Al was retired from Rubatex with thirty-five years of service. He was a member of Wilson's United Methodist Church and he loved hunting, gardening and his buddy, Sparkles. He was also a U. S. Army veteran. Surviving is his wife of forty years, Faye Overstreet Sexton; sisters, Nadine Rose of Huntsville, AL, Lavon Nuckols of Moneta; a brother, John Sexton & wife, Lucy of Hitchens, KY, as well as several nieces & nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Wilson's United Methodist Church, c/o Penny Williams, 4626 Shingle Block Road, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Erick Landau, Pastor Jack Davis & Pastor Steve Turner officiating. Interment, with military honors by American Legion Post # 16 will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after 4 PM and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
