Obituary of Carl Alexander Breitinger

Carl A. Breitinger, 71, of Big Island, VA, formerly of Cherry Hill, NJ, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2014. Born March 28, 1943 in Clinton, SC, he was a son of the late Carl E. and Delilah Jane Breitinger. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Carol Anne (nee Duus); brother, Joseph H. Breitinger and sister-in-law Rhoda of TX; aunt, Marge Barry of TX; mother-in-law, Caroline Duus of Bedford, VA; brothers-in-law, David Duus and sister-in-law, Jan of Troutville, VA, and Charles Duus and sister-in-law, Joan of Roanoke, VA; cousins: June Fountain of FL; Arthur Breitinger of PA; Douglas Breitinger of Big Island, VA; George Breitinger of MD; Bruce Breitinger of PA; Pam Barry of SC; Kitty Bloys, Patrick Barry and Chris Barry all of TX; nieces Cheryl Duus Kennedy, Jennifer Duus Stoops and Tara Duus Rader; nephews Tony Duus, Tanner Duus and Tait Duus. For 20 years Carl was a photojournalist for major newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania: South Jersey Courier-Post, Philadelphia Bulletin, and Philadelphia Inquirer. He was proud to have worked as a paperboy from 1954-61. Carl was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church since 1994. He was a charter member of Bedford Elks Lodge 2844 where he served as a Trustee since 2010, was named Officer of the Year in 2012, and received the Outstanding Service Commendation from the National Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in 2009. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, September 14, from 3 until 6pm at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, VA. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 15 at 11am at Sedalia Baptist Church, Big Island, VA. Graveside service and burial will be at Colestown Cemetery in Cherry Hill, NJ on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Sedalia Baptist Church Benevolence Fund in memory of Carl Breitinger, 1072 Charlemont Rd., Big Island, VA 24526; or Bedford Elks Lodge 2844 Building Fund in memory of Carl Breitinger, P.
