James S. Witt, 75, of Bedford, VA passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at his residence. He was born on Friday, May 10, 1935 in Bedford County, VA, a son of the late James Daniel "Seay" Witt and Marie Hodges Witt . He was also preceded in death by a brother, Cecil E. Witt. He was a retired accountant with First Union Bank, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church . He is survived by four sisters, Yvonne W. Wilson, Viola W. Collins & husband Bobby, Patty W. Inge, Pauline W. Sexton & husband David, all of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Shirley B. Witt of Bedford; Former wife, Joyce F. Witt, Roanoke; Numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Thaxton Community Center, C/O Catrons Tire Center, 1785 W. Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike, Bedford, VA 24523 . Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Mt Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Flores officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 06, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
