Obituary of Landon Wyatt Minnick

On Monday, February 16, 2015, Landon Wyatt Minnick of the Wheats Valley Community left Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital and climbed one more mountain right into the presence of God. He was 90 years old. Landon was born on Tuesday, April 29, 1924 on the Lee Place at the foot of Suck Mountain in Bedford County. He was the oldest son of the late Wyatt Watson Minnick and Pearl Burks Minnick. Landon was a member of Laurel Grove Presbyterian Church. He was a farmer, logger, and orchardist and a darned good hunter & fisherman. He knew hard work quite well. Surviving is his sister, Bernice M. Reynolds & husband, John of Bedford County and a number of nieces & nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice M. Eubank & Odessa M. Falls and by four brothers, George Ed, Garland, Albert & Carlton Minnick. Landon never married and had no children, but his hard work and generosity helped feed plenty of them, including the younger ones in his immediate family and those nieces & nephews. When he made his visits to the family at Christmas, he left the best apples, grapes and oranges that could be found. He was fearless when it came to tearing down and rebuilding a piece of farm equipment. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 19, 2015 beginning at 4 PM followed by a funeral service at 5 PM in the chapel of Updike Funeral Home, Bedford with Pastor William Clark officiating.
