Obituary of Iwana McKinney Falls

Iwana Jane Falls, 85 of Bedford, passed away quietly and peacefully with all of her children by her side at Lynchburg General Hospital on February 25, 2015. Mrs. Falls was born in High Point, NC on October 4, 1929. She spent her early years in High Point, but lived all of her adult life in Bedford County. Soon after moving to Bedford she was joined by her mother, step-father and two brothers - all making their homes in Bedford County. Iwana was a practicing beautician for fifty-three years, having many loyal customers and friends throughout the years. Her other pastime and passion was collecting antiques, especially a wide variety of vintage glassware. She has lived at the same location on Peaks Street for the last forty-seven years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Falls; parents, Sam & Cora McKinney; her step-father, Jim Allred; her brothers, James McKinney & Jack McKinney. Mrs. Falls is survived by her daughter, Susan Falls Kirby & her husband, Danny & their children, Tommy & Stella; her son, Ricky Falls & his wife, Judy & their children, Caitlin & Cori; and son, Rocky Falls & his wife, Jane, all of Bedford. She is also survived by special friends, Mrs. Nancy Barker, Mrs. Anne Miles, Ms. Lakeisha Toler & Ms. Alesia Sharpe. Mrs. Falls was a loving mother, having raised her children single-handedly following the untimely death of her husband in 1971. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bedford Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 161, Bedford, VA 24523 A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev Vernon DeLong officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
