Obituary of Florence Anna "Penny" Hensley

On April 1, 2015, the Lord reached down His hand of love from Heaven and said "Penny, my child, it's time to come home with me and be with your Mom & Dad!" Penny, 70 was born on Sunday, January 14, 1945 in Campbell County, the youngest child of the late Robert W. Hensley and Martha Hackworth Hensley and lived in the same home she was born in (the "home place" "The Hensley Farm") located at 2952 Johnson Creek Road, Evington, VA She was also preceded her in death by five brothers, William, Herbert, Shirley, Curtis & Ray Hensley and two sisters, Lois H. Goodman & Elsie H. Boley. Penny was always "fun loving" and "full of life." She was always a joy to be around. At birth, Penny was not expected to live beyond infancy but with the loving care of her parents and subsequently the extraordinary care of her brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth & Mary, with whom she made her home for many years, she thrived and was such a joy and blessing to all of her family and those who knew her. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Elliott and his staff for the special care they gave Penny. She is survived by three sisters, Virginia Gay and Agnes Anderson & husband, William of Altavista, Christine Burley & husband, James of Hampton; two brothers, James T. "J. T." Hensley & wife, Peggy of Altavista, Kenneth E. Hensley & wife, Mary of the residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Wayne Murphy & Sammy Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in Hensley-Vaughan Cemetery on Leesville Road, Lynch Station. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston. You can shed a tear that she is gone, but you can smile because she lived....We thank GOD, Penny was truly a "special gift" and "blessing" from GOD to us all!
